Emma and the Of Montreal Show

Hey family,

I thought I would fill you in on what I have been up to.
Saturday Ethan and I went to see Of Montreal at the Variety Playhouse and it was indescribably good. I saw them last year with Chris but I must admit that this time was much better. The image to the left DOES NOT do the (male) lead singer justice as far as his live performances go, but...you'd have to see a show to really understand how special he is. Hah. It was totally worth what little sleep we got last night

I have a huge Organic Chemistry test on Tuesday so wish me luck.

Southern Poly has spring break next week but mine isn't for three more weeks, so I am a little jealous. I think we all need a break.

Anyone who can get to a computer or radio on Friday at 12 should listen to 91.1 WREK because I am going to get to do the whole set by myself this week. If you can't listen at noon you can always listen to the archives on the website as well! I am the blue plate special so if you want to hear me on air...go to the website and click the play button for the friday @ noon show! If you go there now you can hear last weeks set which I had a small amount of airtime during. It's pretty awesome...

I guess that is all. I should really go back to studying.
I hope everyone is well. I hope mom is enjoying her bonding, learning experience or whatever that is.

I love you all and hope you are well. UPDATE, PEOPLE!

Sorry I didn't post this week! With Mike home, seems like I don't have as much time to write! Also, I started a new knitting project and that is taking away from my time on-line.

Anyway, it's officially the weekend now, so I hope everyone is planning to have fun.

I am going on my business trip to North Carolina next week. My flight is Sunday afternoon, and I won't be back till Friday. Mike will be home while I'm away, for those of you who worry about George!

Veronica is spending the night tonight, since she has driver's ed in the morning. Cheyenne is over for a bit this evening too, she will be leaving soon though. I don't think Kacie will be home at all this weekend.

Twila was going to come over tonight but I missed her call :-( . Too bad, because it's been over a week since we saw her and I would have liked to have her over! She was supposed to go to Atlanta to have dinner with Emma on Wednesday, and I never heard what happened yet. Maybe I should check my Visa bill...

Emma called on Thursday with computer/network problems which we got resolved; but I was getting dinner ready when she called so we didn't have time to talk. I' m not sure if she will be over on Sunday or not.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't have any news... So if anyone else does, they should post it!

Here is where I am going next week: CCL

And, a picture too:

WREK Radio and other things...

Hello family,

I know I made the last post, but I wanted to remind you all that I will be at the WREK Radio sation on friday at noon "dummy op-ing" the Blue Plate Special. It's 91.1 on the dial...and this time I am going to make Gabe let me read something on air.
For those of you that can't hear it on the radio, you can get it streaming online as well.

I am still a quite a few weeks from becoming a full-blown DJ; I have to take a test and submit a "air-check CD," but after that I plan to do The Classics at 6 or 7am which is all classical music. And maybe someday I'll launch my own show. Who knows...

I am also going to be a project coordinator for Tech Beautification Day in April. It is a campus wide community service day to better the school and community. I'll be in charge of directing a group of people working on a project. It's going to be a lot of fun, especially since it will be spring.

I will, in fact, be coming to dinner on Saturday night and bringing Ethan. And I can cook for Kacie and I if need be. I miss cooking, so I would be more than willing to whip something up. Maybe something that won't involve me taking up a too much space in the kitchen.

Oh...and I got a 60% on my Physics test. Ouch. But I was still above the class average! Significantly. So i don't feel quite so bad. And since my last test was so good, I should be okay.

I'll call sometime before we come over on Saturday. Do you have a dinnertime estimate?
All Ethan and I will be doing Saturday is homework, so we can come whenever.

Love you all!

Emma

Happy V-day

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone is having a good day. It isn't even appropriate for me to discuss all of the antics that have been going on at Georgia Tech today. But it is fun I guess.
Ethan bought me vegan marshmallows! I guessed it 2 weeks ago so it wasn't a surprise. But he is visiting tonight and we'll be making s'mores.
:D
It is going to be fun.
But we both have tons of homework.

I haven't told Ethan this yet but we will be coming around sometime on Saturday. And I'll be home on sunday too.
So I guess I'll see everyone around.
Miss you.

Note for Twi

A package came for you, from a hotel. I think it is your eyeglasses case. Maybe your eyeglasses are inside of it too. ;-)

(Thanks to Mike, he saw that I accidentally posted this the first time as Grandpa! I was setting up accounts for Grandma and Grandpa I forgot I was logged in as him!!)

Identity Theft - No Joke

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America. We all need to be extremely careful to protect our personal information. This includes bank account numbers, email and / or account passwords and user names, mother's maiden name, student id's and especially Social Security Numbers. Very few people actually have a right to ask for your SS number. Your school's administration, credit applications, insurance companies, doctors and hospitals need that number. Blockbuster does not.

If you ever get an email from any institution that says anything like - "Please verify your account numbers" etc. it is ALWAYS a fraud. No reputable firm will ever ask you to verify this information. They will try to trick you over the telephone too. If anyone ever calls you and asks for that sort of information, hang up, look up the number of the institution that the caller claimed to represent and call that number. Don't ask the caller for the number because obviously if they are a fraud they will give you their number and not that institution's correct phone number.

It is a good idea to write down your Check Card and any Credit Card numbers that you carry on a separate piece of paper (or photo copy) and hide it in a safe place in your house. If your wallet is ever stolen you are to call the police first and then any bank or credit institution that was involved. If you lose it you don't have to call the police, otherwise do the same as above.

DO NOT CARRY YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD ON YOUR PERSON. KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE AT HOME.

If you have any questions, please ask me or ConnieMom.

In Washington DC This Week

I'm staying here:

I won't be seeing this:

And, I won't be seeing this:

Last night I woke up in time to see this:

(I guess Kacie, Emma, Cheyenne and George are all happy that they won rock album of the year.)

But, I slept through this:

Tomorrow, the news says I'm going to wake up to this:

I can't wait for Friday so I can see this:

Have a great week everyone, and keep your fingers crossed. I'm currently talking to 2 companies in Atlanta that look promising. Both positions include some travel, but no Sunday through Friday week in and week out.

happenings...

Not much going on around here this weekend...

Mike left for Georgetown; he will be gone until Friday, as usual. We miss him already!

Last I heard from Twi, she had to go back down to Macon because she left her eyeglass case at the Hotel she stayed at for GCPA. Oh, yeah, and by the way, her eyeglasses were in them.

Kacie was feeling a little low this morning, so we were hoping today's mini-poll would cheer her up a little!

We thought we might see Cheyenne for a minute this weekend, but she musta been busy because we haven't heard from her. I'm hoping she'll post to let us know how the new job is going! Haven't heard from Veronica either; hope to see them both on Wednesday!

Emma has kept us pretty well informed with her posts this week. Which is good, because she wasn't home this weekend either. I think she probably has a little homework to do.

Aunt Boonya goes back to work tomorrow after her operation! I can tell you for sure, everyone at work is very happy about that! We got to see her a few minutes and she looked very well.

As for George, he's been building a fort with his friends... and oh yeah, and I finally took him out driving...

DJ Captain Planet

Hey guys,

I know I just posted a few days ago, but I have some more things to tell everyone!
First of all...there have been some issues at our dining hall. And for some unknown reason we had been using styrofoam plates and bowls and plastic silverware for 3 or 4 weeks. I decided to make a complaint to the manager of Woodruff (my dining hall) about how much excess garbage we were producing everyday, especially styrofoam, which doesn't degrade in landfills. He sent me back an e-mail explaining what the issue was and said "Thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention. This concern should be resolved by this afternoon." Sure enough, when I went to dinner we were back to our regular reusable plateware!
Saving the planet one complaint at a time...
haha.

Also, I am training to become a DJ and tomorrow is my first day on air at the radio station, WREK 91.1 so I wanted to encourage you all to tune in from 12-1pm. The show is called Blue Plate Special. You can hear it streaming on the website www.wrek.org.
I don't know how much air time I will have this first time, but listen for me! I'll be the DJ in training at that same time every week until I learn to work all the equipment.
So, check it out!

Em

Internet Dangers

Okay so you've heard it all before... Mike and I are always telling you "Be careful on line, don't trust that people are who they pretend to be."

I know it's tiresome, but we know what we're talking about, and as far as I'm concerned, you can't be reminded enough. And you don't have to be 10 years old to fall for it. If you don't believe me, read this article.

Be careful who you trust!

For Mom because I've neglected the blog....

So if you want a GCPA report there's not much to tell. I ate a triple plate of chili and cheese hasbrowns at Wafflehouse before arriving and that beat out Eric's double which he almost didn't finish so I felt like a serious man because Eric is like a big block 6 foot 4 kinda guy. However, in Eric's defense, he ate a hamburger two-ish hours before hand.
Um, we got to the hotel, had too many rooms, played Scrabble where even though I spelled some awesome words like Krill and Diode I came in last. This may also be because I had a useless Q and I helped everyone else with their words.... Including telling them where to put them.
We went to little conferences in the morning and what not. Unfortunately I'm a bit upset because Karen attended the Advance Layout session with me and whereas I already planned on making layout A LOT more interesting, this now inspired her to do so, so it's not going to look like it changed all because of me. :/ But that's just a bit selfish.
It is quite amusing to go and see what other schools paper's problems are. SCAD has some crazy ones. Like whether or not it's ethical to print quotes from a guy's blog about how he wanted to create obscene films to shock people after hanging himself. O_o.... We're like: "Hmm, how do we get more writers? How do we get more NEWS...?"
However, upon our return, I am offically taking over meetings. Kinda scary. I've been writing out payroll and what not too. And I have to write out my budget for next year to submit to SGA. Ek! When I told mum I wanted to be a manager so that I could have a budget, I didn't realize it was such a frigtening concept. If I do poorly and don't get the money I need allocated, I'll actually have to kick-butt trying to get advertising. That would NOT be good...
Academically, not too much is happening. All my classes are pretty easy. I'm discovering how to go about becoming a transient student at Kennesaw to partake in the Asian studies minor. Yay Chinese courses! This is at times hilarious because no one knows what is going on and they print out e-mails for me that they wouldn't normally show me just because they have useful information in them. I love watching people admit their failings.
What really motivated me to get cracking on this was A) my decision to take Pre-Calc during the summer where all I could but was work and dedicate time to it and B) because Sera and I went to Georgia's 'China Town,' which is pretty pathetic, but also crazy cool.
And, for the 4 girls in this family, we found a HUGE MORNING GLORY STORE! Woohoo! I was so excited. It was totally amazing. If you want to know where, I'll give directions.

My Days

Hey Family!

Just posting to tell you about a few things...

I've had some academic success...I got an 87 on my physics test (class average was a 64) and a 91 on my organic chemistry test (class average was a 75). So that is an improvement from last semester anyway. And in chem I did better than my study partner who was one of the smartest kids at Pope. Rose, who is his girlfriend, has demanded that I help him. I thought it was the other way around!

Also, I have been sending my resume out. I have two interviews so far. They are in March with HNTB Corporation and Geo-Hydro Engineers Inc. Although I am nervous, it is exciting to be entering the world of real jobs. No more QT for me...
This is the description of the job at Geo-Hydro:
"Co-ops will support geotechnical and materials engineers in performing subsurface explorations, seismic refraction surveys, erosion control inspections, CAD, soil classification, soil testing, concrete testing, agggregate testing, asphalt testing, and construction inspection. "
That is my top choice as of right now!

I finally watched "Good Morning" the movie Mike burned for me for my English class and it was great. My favorite so far.

Also I have a movie reccommendation for everyone. It's called Idiocracy, and it has Luke Wilson in it. It's about the future and rather than society advancing, everyone gets really stupid.
It is hilarious.

Now I have to go study for my calc test! Talk to you all later.
Hope you are well.

Emma

Veg-Head

Love veggies? Love snow? Boy have I got the news article for you!

Their 10-foot sculpture, called ''Veg-Head,'' had cherry tomato eyes, a peapod grin, bell pepper ears, a jalapeno nose, and a pumpkin-like top.

''Veg-head'' took 30 hours to carve, Chris Andrews said.

Too bad no one picked "ski vacation". Cause that's where we WERE going to go. ;-)

Happenings...

Well, lets see what's been going on...

Mike is home this week -- yay!!

Twi and Korey stopped by on Thursday. Korey was having trouble with his battery and was going to get a new one. Twi was going to GCPA this weekend. I'd love to hear how it went! Maybe she'll post a report.

Cheyenne attended her orientation for Publix on Saturday. She said that, while it wasn't exactly fun, it wasn't bad either. For those of you who didn't see her, she let Veronica straighten her hair for her before the orientation. She looked so different, her own mother didn't recognize her!

Emma was home over the weekend. I took her shopping for clothes so she'll have something for her co-op interviews. We found her a very cute skirt/blazer set. Also, Ethan was over for dinner on Saturday; we had pasta.

George attended Amber's semi-formal at the Chimney Springs Club House on Saturday night. Apparently he "could've danced all night", or perhaps he did! At any rate, he was shakin' it so much his legs were sore the next day! He's sleeping on the couch now, so I guess it took a lot out of him. Imagine what it did for the girls...

Kacie stayed at UGA this weekend. I don't know know a whole lot about what she was up to, but I hoped she enjoyed her tuna casserole!

As for Veronica, she pretty much spent the whole weekend straightening Cheyenne's hair! ;-)

A Request~

Dear Connie--

I love your recipie section, however, could you someday put up Tuna Noodle Cassarole and that noodle and cabbage dish? Those are two of my favorites and I was looking for them today.
:( Thanks!!!!

Love,
Kacie
