My tests recently

Hey family,

Just posting on what is going on with me.

I got my math test back... 71. That's not great or anything but I am just stoaked that I improved. I got perfect scores on the first two problems, but only 1 point of credit on the 3rd and 4pts on the fourth. LAME. But as long as I do better on the next two tests, hopefully I can get a B. That's just the way Tech is I guess.
I got an 89 on my CS test which is great. Much improved from the first one.

Also I had my academic advisment and I am going to start working full time either this summer or next fall. If I don't start working this summer I will probably be taking 2 classes at SPSU or Kennesaw. I will soon know for sure.

But I found out that there are only 10 other people majoring in Environmental Engineering at Tech. My advisor also said that it was harder than Civil because I have to take pretty much all of the lab sciences. Woo! But that is the part of science I like most, so hopefully I am doing the right thing.

I am sitting in chem right now so I better go.
Hope everyone is doing well, see you again in a few weeks!

Studying Abroad

Hey everyone! This is mostly for the parents, but the information for the study abroad program that I want to do here: Link

OK, well I can't get the link to work. But, if you navigate to where it leads you, click on Study Abroad on the left hand side, adn then look at the Cannes Film Festival, thats the information I am trying to show.

Its only a maymester, but I will get credit towards my minor AND magazine major, and its short enough where I can either do GHP or an Internship over the summer if I choose.

Well thats all.

Talk to everyone soon!!!

Happenings...

Of course the BIG news is the RHCP Concert last night. Kacie, Emma & Cheyenne all report it was totally awesome and "those old guys can still play pretty good." ;-) It all went off without a hitch, despite the last minute confusion noted by Cheyenne in her recent post.

Mike's flight WAS due in from Washington DC at 8:24 pm tonight. But it was cancelled, and his new flight was delayed. It now shows an arrival some time after 10:00. :( He will be leaving for California on Sunday again, but spends the last half of the week at home. YAY!!

Kacie is celebrating her fall break this week by doing laundry. And other things too of course!

Twila and Korey came by for dinner on Monday. It was nice to have the company!

I met Twila's roommate Karen last night; the three of us had dinner at Magic Wok. Karen is really nice and dinner was great. Afterwards I drove them home and stopped by Twi's apartment for a minute. Her room is not too terriby messy yet, and she has a nice shower curtain!

George was really really sorry to miss the RHCP concert. Now he wants to go to the Primus concert in November... anyone volunteer to take him?

Choppy hurt his foot on his walk with Kacie yesterday, but it seems a little bit better today. I'm considering whether or not he needs to go to the vet.

Veronica reports that the concert went well last week. Sorry we had to miss it!

Kacie, Cheyenne and Veronica are all expected over this weekend. Emma is expected home for at least a short visit too.

Uncle Sid and Aunt Boonya visited the aquarium in Atlanta last Monday. Aunt Boonya reports that the whales were worth the trip. Now I really want to go! She also reminds us that the Louvre exhibit opened at the High Museum this month. Try to get there if you can!

Don't forget to check out the new poll today!! Last week's poll winner was no surprise: Republicans are the Worst Thing Ever! (As a group, anyway. There are certain ones we still love!)

Finally, pic of the day...

DON'T FORGET --- THE TIME CHANGES THIS WEEKEND!

Daylight Savings times ends Oct 29, and we set our clocks back for an extra hour of sleep.

Special notes about the time change:

Since 1966, most of the United States has observed Daylight Saving Time from at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of April to 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. BUT, beginning in 2007, most of the U.S. will begin Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and revert to standard time on the first Sunday in November.

Also, Georgia Navigator traffic site reports:

Beginning Monday, the sun will go down 1 hour earlier, with full darkness around 6 pm. For whatever reason, this time shift significantly affects traffic patterns during the afternoon. For the next couple of weeks, motorists can expect severe congestion during the evening rush hour, and are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations or alter travel plans.

Mike's travel changed for next week

Mike will be flying to California this coming Sunday, and returning on the "red eye" early Wednesday morning. The rest of the week he will be working in town.

He was supposed to be in New Jersey, but the plans changed. Happily, this was a good last minute change, with more time at home!! Looks like we will get a "regular" Wednesday night next week!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TWILA!!

Don't forget to wish Twi a happy birthday today!

She turns 20!!

Weird Al Fans Unite!

I know there are a few Weird Al fans in the family, so I thought you might be interested in this: Weird Al in Top Ten. Of course, now that I am an Old Person, I have no idea what song he is parodying. But his official web site is here.

Maybe you Youngsters can clue me in...

Tommorow

Tommorow, Tuesday, I have a chorus concert. It starts at seven. I know it's late notice, but if anyone would like to come, its at the high school. Not to sound cocky, but our schools advanced women, bella voce, is extremely talented this year. So, if you have the time and oppurtunity to make it, you should.

Georgia College and State University

So my visit there was much fun. I love the campus. It was so small and not confusing to get around. The campus was so pretty. I seriously didn't want to leave. And the dorms were very nice. They were small, but all of them are suite style so it's 2 rooms connected to 1 bathroom and 2 girls to each room. They also had a nice workout center. It was like a smaller version of the Y. The best part about it was that u can sign up for a personal trainer for FREE! The guide said that there was no excuse for the freshman 15 with that workout center there. Also, basically everything at the school is free if your a student (including games and the medical center) which is an awesome plus. Anyhow, I jest wanted to let you all know that I had fun today visiting the college and that i really want to go there.

Worried about voting?

For those of you away at school (or away on business), maybe you are worried about getting home on election day to cast your tender little vote. Well, don't worry. There is an alternative to cutting class.

Option 1: You can vote by mail. Follow the instructions under "Absentee Voting By Mail". But don't delay --- you have to fax in your application for a ballot and then they send you a ballot by mail, which you then have to mail back so it gets to them by election day (Nov 7).

Options 2: If you will be in town before then, you can also vote "absentee in person". From October 30 through November 3, you can vote Absentee at the following locations:

  • Cobb Elections Main Office, West Park Government Center, 736 Whitlock Ave., Suite 400, Marietta, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • East Cobb Government Service Center, 4400 Lower Roswell Rd., Marietta, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • South Cobb Government Service Center, 4700 Austell Road, Austell, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • West Cobb Parks & Recreation District Office, Lost Mountain Park, Dallas Highway, Marietta, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • North Cobb Senior Center (at Kennworth Park), 4100 Highway 293 (Old 41), Acworth, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

There are more instructions at the Cobb County Board of Elections web site.

new poll

Here's the last results:

Cable or Cleaning?

Should we get cable tv, or hire back a maid service?

Hire a maid and go to the gym to watch The Daily Show!! 83.3% 5

Cable. I'll clean the house for you! 16.7% 1

Thanks!!!!!! Now we just gotta find someone Mike and I can both agree on... probably NOT going to be easy.

Back at school

Hello family,

I just wanted to say (mostly for mom's sake) that I did not get my calc test back today because ours need to be regraded or something. So who knows when I will get that.

I enjoyed seeing everyone this weekend!
Ethan will probably drop me off again Sunday morning now that he is working back at Borders. So I might need a ride back to school.

All-State Audition

I'm sure some of you were wondering the results of my audition from Saturday, while others might not have known I had one. Unfortunately I will not be going to Savannah this year. There's always next year I suppose.

Happenings

We had a houseful today, everyone but Twi for dinner. Kacie will be going back to UGA tonight, but Emma is home until at least Tuesday, we think, due to the GA Tech fall break. Thanks to Mike for the delicious pasta sauce!

Mike is home until next Sunday, when he'll be off for Reston, VA.

RHCP Concert next week! Looks like MAYBE Cheyenne will get the extra ticket. Kacie will be here for the UGA Fall break next week. Probably going to need to work out the use of the Bonneville for the night of the concert.

I think we'll have Twi & Korey for dinner tomorrow... how do cheeseburgers on the grill sound?

Choppy got a wash and trim today. Reviews are mixed.

George finally got new sneakers and a hoodie. Wish he could get his old (expensive) hoodie (from Pac Sun) back from the girl (Meg) who has it... any ideas on how to do that?

Cheyenne took the SAT yesterday at Pope high school. Will be a couple of weeks for the results. Good luck Cheyenne!!!

Veronica auditioned for All-State Chorus yesterday. It only took three hours--- arghh. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks Kacie , Emma and Cheyenne for helping carry the new tables into the house! They are very nice.

Finally, pic of the day...

new poll

I'm trying a different polling service; hopefully it will do away with the annoying popups that the other poll was putting up.

Previous Poll Results:

How much would YOU pay for Comcast Cable?

1. Anything! I WANT MY MTV!!!!!!! 0 0%
2. Cable? How bourgeois. I'm an intellectual. 0 0%
3. As much as YOU can afford without affecting my allowance. 2 29%
4. I would love cable but I would never support the anti consumer & anti labor policies of this tyrannical monopoly, at any price! Live Free Or Die! 3 43%
5. Huh? 2 29%

Total Votes: 7

Looks like it's "no" to Comcast, at least for now...

Don't let this happen to you!!!

With all the teenage drivers in the house, this one hits a little too close to home...

The photo depicts "the aftermath of an July 2005 accident in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the result of a teenage driver who was distracted by a cell phone and ran his Ford F-150 pickup truck off the road, sending the vehicle airborne and launching it into a garage, where it came to rest atop a Ferrari." Here is the newspaper report:
A Fort Smith family had their home remodeled, unintentionally, after a pickup truck landed in their garage on top of a 2000 Ferrari.

The accident happened just before four Sunday evening on Jenny Lind Road in Fianna Hills. According to the police report, the teenage driver reached for a cell phone and ran off the road and became airborne. He caused about two hundred thousand dollars worth of damage to the garage, the Ferrari, a PT Cruiser as well as 2 motorcycles.

The speed limit is posted at 30 miles per hour, but the owner of the damaged home as well as neighbors say there have been plenty of problems in the past. It's been nonstop traffic for the neighborhood with a steady stream of cars driving by to get a view of a flattened Ferrari and devastated garage.

Owner Steve Marts wasn't home at the time of the accident, but got the bad news over the phone. "I was just numb, just real numb," Marts said."

I'm afraid "Ooooops?!!" won't quite cut it here!

My recipes

Email me any recipe you want posted (yours or mine) and I'll add it. I use "Big Oven" software; these recipes can be imported directly into Big Oven.

I'll put a link in the sidebar too....

Recipe Links

ConnieMom was supposed to put up a recipes link where we could start posting some of our favorite family recipes like:

Enough Mike Noodles
Brazilian Macaroni Salad
Mammy's Pasta Sauce
Connie's Pizza Sauce for Publix Pizza
Italian Beef

Oh well, I guess she's too busy sneaking Chopper snacks like honey ham and potato chips every night.

Things are going well here this week. I had dinner with a friend of mine from grade school last night. He had moved away when I was G&Z's age and we lost touch up until a few years ago. He is now a law professor at Berkley. We had some real mexican food - but in the middle of the night my stomach told me to stick to Cazadores.

I love and miss you all and hope to see at least the bulk of you this weekend. I will be home all next week.

Love,
- DaddyMike

Garage Door Code Changed!!

Don't forget to check your phone text messages to get the new code.

Happenings

Cheyenne and Veronica are here this weekend! Both are here tonight; both have to work tomorrow.

Emma, as she has said, is expected here tomorrow. Yay!!!

Don't think we'll see Kacie until MAYBE next weekend, maybe not.

Not sure where Twila is... but if you poke around the SPSU web site, you might find some of her articles in the latest issue of The Sting.

George CAN'T WAIT till Emma gets here... Hmmmm, wonder why??

Mike is leaving for California on Sunday. He's coming home on the red eye Friday night, so we won't see much of him until next Saturday. I should be updating his travel schedule soon.

Speaking of next Saturday, Cheyenne is taking the SAT's, and Veronica has All-State Chorus tryouts next Saturday. They will be here that weekend too because we switched weekends last week.

We moved the BIG COUCH AND CHAIR down to the Girl's Room. Thanks Korey & George for the help!

Watch out for Uncle Sid!!! He may be lurking on the site!

RHCP is just around the corner now...

And SOMEBODY has a birthday coming up...

Let me leave you with My Pretty Picture... specially for you math & computer geeks...

Some laughs

I just thought I would post this picture, because I have nothing to do before my chemistry teacher figures out how to work the projector.

Just something funny for friday.

I can't decide who looks more different!

Can't wait to see whoever is home on saturday. I will call before I show up.

Hope everyone had a good week.

Emma and the Weekend

Hello everyone...

I was just posting to say that I will probably be home on sunday for a little while in the morning. I am not sure when, but Ethan is going to bring me by. I might ask for a ride back from someone if I can get one.
I will bring my ipod mini for George.

And uh...I think that is all. Back to studying for me!

Goodnight!

ps. I thought you might be interested in knowing that the code I just executed for my computer science homework almost crashed my computer! Wrote a recursive code to draw a sierpinski triangle that was...pretty huge. Think I could have done something wrong?

Where is Zonk?

For those who wondering about how I'm doing

Which I know is everyone. :D

First of all, my date on Sunday with the guy from my photo class was a disaster since he told me he was looking for a wife. O_o Yeah, uh......

School is good. My apartment looks good still.

Other than that, I guess there's nothing to tell.

I'll be home sometime before fall break...I hope....b/c I'm gonna have a docotr's appt, and I'm gonna try to split the time between the houses, but I guess it will depend on when that is. But dont worry, I'll definately be around fall break, post RHCP CONCERT WHICH IS ONLY 22 SHORT DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Kacie

whoa nellie!!!

Before things get ugly,

let me explain.

The Thanksgiving poll is really more of an opinion poll, and not a vote. I'm basically a Thanksgiving Turkey kinda gal, always have been, always will be. And since I'm generally the cook, that pretty much seals the deal.

That being said, I propose we offer a side of spaghetti at Thanksgiving this year, for those who want it. A bit unusual perhaps, but we're not really a family known for its conformity, are we?

Sunday, October 01, 2006

Before You Vote in The Poll

Think of the poor Turkey who's life will be spared. Think of our dear Emma, who will either throw her vote away on Tofurkey, or will do the practical thing and vote with me. If we don't get enough votes, what will happen to Emma then?

What about poor little Kacie? She won't eat Turkey either.

And, think of yourselves! It is my turn to buy the turkey this year, and I am leaning toward the Cajun turkey because I liked it better than the traditional one.

Do you?

Vote like a winner! This Thanksgiving, it's gotta be

SPAGHETTI!

Mmmm, doesn't this look good?

Look who WOULD vote for Turkey...
