Just an update

Hi family,

I hope all the college kids are doing well on finals. Mom told me Twila finished today...lucky!
So far I have studied calculus for 7 total hours today. If you don't believe that is possible, just ask me to elaborate on what I exactly I was studying and I will ease your doubts! I am not kidding. I actually have this strange pain in my back and I think there is some correlation.

I wanted to post the times for Twila and my flight to PA on Saturday because Grandma needed to know!

On the way there it is flight 204 which leaves ATL at 8:15 AM and is set to arrive at 9:57 AM.

On the way back on May 9 I can probably tell you when I get there, but just for good measure. We are on flight 213 that leaves OH at 5:49 PM and arrives at 7:30 PM.

Alrighty. I think that is it.

Oh wait...one more thing that should make everyone happy:

:D Love you all

My First Task as Editor

Wow. Sorry, I just have to get this off my chest.
Apparently, my first job as editor is going to be firing someone over plagiarizing. Yippie.
Unfortunately, he's plagiarized indirectly before. But the last editor who discovered it let him go. I just don't think I can. I mean, he mentioned his sources name, but said that the original author just "outlined" the concept and that he was going to take some of the same Bible verses that the original author used as examples. But really, he just changed the words of the original author's ideas and re-wrote the guy's work completely. -_-!
This is why you shouldn't home school your kids. They just don't get it.

The Great Cellphone Kerfuffle Comes to an End

Mom is pleased to have her new "phone" up and running. Look at that thing!

It was long night last night. First we went to the Verizon Store, and the wireless geek told us that since we bought the phone over the internet, he couldn't help us. Separate sales channel. In other words, "We didn't get the commission."

So Mom and I headed over to Rocco's and had an unhealthy but delicious dinner. When we got home, Mom called the Verizon Customer Support line, and they proceeded to activate her phone with Emma's number. 2 Hours, one bath and a couple of mumbled curses later Mom's phone had her number, Emma's had hers, and I got my number activated on Mom's old/new or new/old phone...

I'm in New Jersey next week, but then home again the week after. Have a great weekend everybody!

happenings...

Well, let me see if I can remember what's been happening the last two weeks...

First of all, Kacie was awesome at the CURO Symposium at UGA. Aunt Boonya and I were in attendance; we were both very proud of her. Apparently we weren't the only ones impressed with her reading; a fellow poet who also presented that day (and is quite cute btw) seemed to like her presentation quite well too...

Of course, the next day we had to leave for New York. It was a taxing trip by all accounts. A funeral is always hard, but it was good to see the family.

While we were gone, Twi stayed at the house, keeping track of George. She did quite a good job too, and neither one seemed worse for the wear. Thanks Twi!!

Thanks to Twi, too, for her post earlier on, letting Kacie know about a local magazine internship. Kacie interviewed for it and it looks like she has a good chance of getting it. She should find out this week. Good Luck Kacie!

Schedule-wise, all of the college students have this last week of classes before finals. I'll be thinking about all of you!

Emma was here this weekend cooking up a storm. She's quite a hit with the kids at the Southern Poly School of Architecture, and I don't just mean one in particular! Midnight cupcakes the week before finals are a very welcome treat! So if you see her zipping around in her little "silver comet" stay out of the way... there may be goodies to deliver...

It's not going to be long before we're waving bye to Cheyenne as she heads off for GCSU in early July! Of course, first she will have to work her way through a bad case of "Senioritis" --- I'm sure the rest of you older girls can relate to that. Those last couple of weeks of high school sure drag on and on.

Veronica has a controversial new beau in the wings... although, since the consensus around town is that the boy is really a nice kid, we'll overlook his advanced age and give the fellow a chance... One question for Veronica though --- did he let you win at miniature golf?

Poor Aunt Boonya has been sick with a bad cold all last week. Let's hope she is feeling better now! Let's hope Uncle Sid doesn't get it too.

As for Mike, he is home this week. His schedule is looking a little less hectic. I will try to get it posted soon.

Speaking of Mike, as most of you know, he lost his cell phone today. But since I HATE my new phone, we're going to swap. I found a phone I like better and as soon as it gets here we are going to swap them. In the meantime, you will be able to reach him on my cell phone, and I'm going to use my Palm Treo from work as a phone till my new one comes. If you don't know the number, Mike can give it to you.

Finally, in case you were wondering, it is warm enough weather now for swimming... just ask George. He and a couple of friends spent the afternoon yesterday swimming in the Chattahoochee!

Pic of the Week : Another use for cupcakes!!

Sorry Everyone!!!!!!

Sorry I've been neglecting the blog. Seems like I'm just now getting caught up from our trip to New York. But lots has been going on so I'm getting ready to post "happenings"(hopefully tonight), I have an idea for a new poll; plus I have updates to Mike's travel schedule I'm trying to do to. And, I've gotten a few requests to "re-invite" some people who have forgotten their logins!

I promise I'll be more attentive in the future!

No one has posted in a while...

Hey Family,

I just had a few things I thought I would tell you about.

The first is that I got a 6 person apartment for the fall semester. It is going to be kind of wild living with 5 other girls, but we have three bathrooms and two full sized refridgerators...so I guess we will see? I already know one of my roommates because she is a civil engineer and we had orientation together.
Here is a picture of my floor. I am room 233 B which is on the left side of that short part that juts out of the L. Click the pic for a bigger view.

There is a huge Earth Day celebration going on at my campus today. There are a lot of hobos here getting the free stuff. And tomorrow I will be leading a group of 20 volunteers in mulching along a 600 foot wall by the baseball field!
In the spirit of Earth Day I wanted to share an application for your computer that helps conserve energy. It is called Local Cooling (click for link to website). In a nut shell, "the 100% Free LocalCooling Application automatically optimizes your PC's power consumption by using a more effective power save mode." I especially think the PC's at home should have this, because they are always left on. But I encourage everyone to go to the website and check it out! Al Gore would want you too!

And lastly, I went to a concert earlier in the week. I especially like one of the artists, Kevin Devine. I think everyone in the family would be happy to know that I found yet another popular musician with a blatent anti-war message. I don't know if everyone would like his music, but here is a particularly powerful excerpt from his song "No Time Flat"

"You say support the troops; I do.
I want them all brought back,
and every building that you bombed raised from the ground.
If you really go and reinstate the draft,
you'll straight away just split the country straight in half,
so try arresting everyone who sends their draft cards back.
I'll be returning mine in no time flat."

It just wanted to share that and how happy it made me!

I will be around with Ethan this weekend. So...I guess I will see you then?

For Kacie

I don't know what you're doing this summer, but I found this on Craigs List and thought you might be interested. I don't really have any interest in going into magizine and since I don't read them, couldn't even list three I liked the most. O_o

A national women's fashion and lifestyle magazine based in Atlanta is seeking summer and fall interns. You must be organized, detail-oriented and passionate about magazines. We're a small, hard-working staff, so while we'll certainly ask you to do some of the typical intern stuff, like calling in products and assisting on photo shoots, there's also plenty of opportunity to score some nice bylines and really contribute. (No coffee runs or dry cleaning pick-ups for our interns.) We're looking for someone who's available 20 or so hours per week - some work can be done from home, but you will need to be in our office (just off Windy Hill) some of the time, too. We're looking for someone to start as soon as possible. Please send a letter of interest explaining why you think you'd be a great candidate, your most current resume and tell us about your three favorite magazines and why you love them.
  • Location: Atlanta
  • Compensation: Stipend
  • This is a part-time job.
  • This is an internship job
  • Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
  • Please, no phone calls about this job!
  • Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.

Sorry. I would've e-mailed this directly to you, but I don't know you're e-mail. :/

Saturday?

Hey family,

I just wanted to tell everyone (and mom specifically) that Ethan and I will probably be coming around for dinner on Saturday night. I was thinking about making some General Tso's Tofu...but if you folks had plans we could squeeze into then maybe we would do whatever you were doing.

Okay...that's about it.

cell phone problem!

Hey family,

The display on my cell phone has stopped working! I'm ordering a new one, but in the meantime, if you try to call me and I miss the call, I won't know it; it still rings but I can't see missed calls or text messages or voicemails, etc. Nor can I phone you back in an instant because I can't see my address book either. So if you need to reach me and I don't pick up, my advice is to try again. Or email. Or post a message here.

Also, my trip to California last week has been cancelled --- yay!!! Twi, give me a call; I tried to call you today but didn't reach you.

And Kacie; we are on for Monday. We might make it dinner rather than lunch because Julia and I might both need to work half a day.

Cheyenne & Veronica --- see you tomorrow.

luv, Mum

trouble for harry potter fans

I just read on Yahoo that the release of "Deathly Hallows" might be delayed for three months or more. Seems there is some kind of dispute between JK Rowlings and the publisher over merchandising that the publisher approved without her consent. They are reporting that unless they come to an agreement within the next week or two, there could be legal proceedings that might delay the release. Read more about it here.

Something new in the driveway...

So...you might notice something new in the driveway if you come by the house. That would be my Silver 2000 Honda Civic! Yay!
I will definatly be paying Mom back for a long while. I got some picture for everyone who isn't here to see it.
The last owner put in some cool, fancy tail lights...
It has a moon roof!
This is just me showing off my new sunglasses.
BTW...all of these pictures were taken with the camera on my phone. If anyone wants to know how I uploaded them, you can either ask me or just get an account at Flickr.com.

In other news, last night Ethan and I made ourselves pancakes for dinner. After expressing to mom the sad fact that all of the vegan pancakes I try to make from scratch come out bad, Aunt Boonya gave me a box of organic pancake mix. I just wanted to let her know that they came out REALLY tasty! Thank you so much for finally helping me complete my dream of having delicious vegan pancakes. Ethan scarfed them up as well...
This is how he felt about them:
<3 Emma

Ps. No one better get any ideas about my car when I am away at school!
