Why Am I Not Surprised?

From CNN:

Posted: 01:55 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new analysis.

More than half of people who attend services at least once a week — 54 percent — said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified. Only 42 percent of people who “seldom or never” go to services agreed, according the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified — more than 6 in 10 supported it. People unaffiliated with any religious organization were least likely to back it. Only 4 in 10 of them did.

The analysis is based on a Pew Research Center survey of 742 American adults conducted April 14-21. It did not include analysis of groups other than white evangelicals, white non-Hispanic Catholics, white mainline Protestants, and the religiously unaffiliated, because the sample size was too small.

Credit Card Scams

Just a reminder to all. A bank or credit card company will never send you an email asking you to verify your account information. Those emails are always scams. A bank or credit card company will never call you to ask for your password or the 3 digit card code from the back of your card. If you ever get a call like this hang up and call the 800 number on the card and report the fact that someone called you and represented themselves as an employee of the company and asked for your personal information.

Scambusters here.

Good Questions!

I got this from Daily Kos, but I liked it so much I wanted to share! ---

Questions to that half of Texas' Republicans

Digg this! Share this on Twitter - Questions to that half of Texas' RepublicansTweet this submit to reddit Share This

Fri Apr 24, 2009 at 08:31:31 AM PDT

So we now know that half of Texas' Republicans want to secede from the United States. So I have some questions for that crowd:

  • Are you flying an American flag? Because you don't get to do that when you cry and take your ball home.
  • Do you have a bumper sticker that says, "These colors don't run"? Because it sure looks like you're running.
  • Do you still pretend that your party is the "Party of Lincoln"? If so, what part of Lincoln exactly, would that be?
  • Since you've spent the last eight years saying "America, love it or leave it", is that an admission that you don't love America? Because we liberals? We loved it and stayed, even when your idiot of a president was trashing the place.
  • Was your patriotism (My country, right or wrong) so skin-deep, that it depended 100 percent on the guy in the White House?
  • That $200 billion Texas got in defense contracts between 2000 and 2007? No more of that. No more Ft. Hood. No more NASA. No more federal largesse. You okay with that?
  • You do realize that the Cowboys will no longer be "America's Team", right? Though they'd dominate the two-team Texas Football League (TFL).
WELL SAID!!!! Original link here.

New Insurance

Just a reminder that our new insurance carrier is Aetna. If you need to go to the dr or dentist, please let me know and I will print you a temporary ID card until the new ones come.

Also, if you have prescriptions, best to fill them through the mail order service. Here is a form for that: https://www.aetnarxhomedelivery.com/member/eww0305p_Aorderform.pdf

It is a bit confusing, as it asks for all family member information. If you need to use this form, and you get confused, let me know...

Braggin' Rights

I thought I would post about what graduation things are going on with me. If anyone wants to come to any of these events, that would be cool. =)

Tuesday, April 21st from 4:00 to 6:00 - Portfolio Open House
This is where all of the graduating seniors in my major set up their web and paper portfolios. Everyone from the department, friends and family, past graduates, and even future employers are invited. I've been to several of these in the past, so I'm excited that it's finally my time to do it!

Friday, April 24th - Student Awards Banquet
I was really shocked to have been selected as this years "Outstanding Senior" in my major. (Mostly because I didn't know we had such an award!) So I get to attend a banquet and I believe eat yummy food and see who else won. Korey was nominated for this in his major as well, but it's far more competitive in his major and I don't think he won or I think we would've heard by now.

Thursday, April 30th from 3:00 to 5:00 - Honors Graduation Ceremony
This ceremony is open to anyone for attendance but is specifically for my graduation from the Honors program. I will be given my honors graduation cords and will have a professor speak about me. I've never been to one of these before, so I'm not sure what to expect!

Saturday, May 9th at 2:00 - Graduation Ceremony
This is it! My final exodus into the real world, hahaha. Anyone can attend and it is taking place in the gym.

And that's about it! Have to get in the shower because we're getting our engagement pics done today. Yay! I will post some when we get them back. =)

Hope everyone is doing well.

*SIGH*

So it appears i am forced to use the $2 for 20 minutes of internet provided in the lobby of the hotel to post this, but i greatly regret sounding like such a doofus in that email i sent mom about my scuba/snorkle in the Great Barrier Reef. Had i appropriate internet, i would upload a few awesome photos i have of all of us from our live aboard boat. And i promise when i return in a few days you'll all get to see those photos and hear a better version of what all we did and saw.

I am excited to see you all again...Maybe everyone can come over one night for a photos from Emma's trip viewing party???

Miss you and love you. Wish me luck on all the finals i have in the next two days!

See you soon!
